Our History
1970s
Family Roots
The Thakrar family emigrate from Uganda to the United Kingdom and begin trading fresh fruits and vegetables.
1990s
Expansion
In the 1990s Rodney Thakrar grows his company and begins importing from across the globe, including from Costa Rica. He begins supplying the British Ministry of Defence.
2006
Jai Graduates
Jai Thakrar, Rodney’s eldest son, graduates in Economics from the University of Nottingham, preparing to join the family business.
2011
Jalaram Fruit is born
Jalaram Fruit begins operations in Costa Rica, exporting its first crownless pineapples to Canada in partnership with a fresh cut processor.
2013
Product Diversification
Jalaram expands its portfolio, adding pineapples with crowns, tubers, melons, and watermelons, reaching new markets.
